How Often Should I Clean My Refrigerator

How Often Should I Clean My Refrigerator: Good question! It is essential to clean your refrigerator regularly in order to protect your family from all manner of nasty and potentially lethal germs that may grow in there if left unchecked. You should therefore clean the inside of the fridge once a week and all the mechanical bits at the back twice a year, so here’s what you do…

The Weekly Clean

Take out the fridge’s shelves and compartments, wash them in warm soapy water, and then thoroughly rinse them off. Now, wipe out the insides of the fridge with a homemade cleaning fluid made from two teaspoons of baking soda for every half-pint of warm water. Be prepared that you may need to add more baking soda for the stubborn stains.

Then, dip an old toothbrush into your cleaning fluid and scrub away carefully at the rubber door seals.

Lastly, clean the outside of the fridge, paying special attention to the door and the door handle. These can be breeding grounds for germs that can make your family very sick, indeed.

The Biannual Clean

Drag your fridge away from the wall and carefully vacuum the cooling elements and motor at the back free of any cobwebs or accumulated dust. This will make your fridge cool more efficiently, and so help save you money on your energy bills.
