Everything You Need to Know About Microfiber Cloths:Â They’re amazing they’re miraculous you know people say it’s the best thing since sliced bread microfiber cloth in the cleaning world are the best thing since sliced bread and I love them so much that a couple of days ago I launched our line of microfiber cloths they’re called makers microfiber cloths named after me and they are fantastic you can see them right over there so this week I’m going to teach you all about microfiber cloths if you don’t know about them yet I’m going to tell you why they’re so wonderful for cleaning how to take care of them and where to use what kind of cloth.
First things first what exactly is microfiber well it’s a material that has a blend of polyester and polymide some cloths have a mix but those are the two key ingredients of the cloth if you will the cool thing about microfiber I mean there are so many cool things about microfiber so I’m going to control myself here but it gonna break it down okay so microfiber is called microfiber because if you look at the cloth up close you’ll see that they have these tiny loops yarn and what’s happened with that yarn is each piece has been sliced if you can imagine this a hundred thousand times making the actual strand so fine I think it’s a hundred times finer than a human hair it’s like it’s insanely thin and what this means is it’s incredible at picking things up so whether it’s dust dirt or even bacteria which is often times larger than one of those singular microfiber strands microfiber cloths have the ability to pick it all up and because they can hold eight times their weight in water they don’t leave any moisture behind so they’re an incredible cleaning too.
l I quickly want to touch on absorbency when it comes to my fiber cloth because microfiber picks up everything on a surface meaning it won’t leave streaks behind and it’s lint-free so you won’t have any lint left behind you ever notice when you wipes a surface down with something like an old t-shirt or a dish towel or even a cotton cloth it just leaves streaks behind it kind of pushes dirt around more than actually removes it well a microfiber cloth does the exact opposite when you wipe a surface with a microfiber cloth you better believe that surface is going to be clean dry and bacteria free how do you know if a microfiber cloth is good quality and if it’s going to actually clean the way it’s supposed to well the first thing you want to keep in mind is the weight and the thickness of the cloth so for example I got this one at the dollar store it feels thin it feels flimsy and when I hold it up to the light I can see right through it that tells me this is a super thin lightweight cloth and it is not going to clean or absorb the way a better quality cloth would now look at this one here when I’m feeling it it’s thicker and it’s heavier and when I hold it up to the light I can’t see through it so that’s how I know this is a good quality cloth and the way that that’s measured in the microfiber world is in GSM or grams per square meter don’t ask me I didn’t make up the measurement but what I can tell you is the heavier the more dense that number is the thicker and the more absorbent.
Your microfiber cloth is going to be different kinds of microfiber cloths can be used in different areas around your house for different tasks and the first one I have here is our general-purpose microfiber cloth also known as a tarry style microfiber cloth because it kind of looks like a towel material this is great to use just for your general cleaning and dusting you can use it with a little bit of all-purpose cleaner or water or even water and vinegar do your cleaning wipe it dry afterward I like to do my cleaning on one side and then flip my cloth over onto the dry side and wipe it that way and it’s all good so these are kind of your go-to cloths you’re going to use this for the majority of work that you do around your house next up is the flat weave cloth or the glass and electronics cleaning cloth meaning it is perfect for cleaning all things glass mirror windows and electronic iPhones iPads or tablets depending on which brand you use I’m not saying anything TVs computer screens anything like that the reason why these cloths are so important to have is because unlike another microfiber cloth which could cling on to a piece of debris and then of course you use that on a flat delicate surface that can definitely scratch like glass or electronics something like this is completely flat it can’t pick up any debris meaning if you use it it will still absorb and wipe away dirt and bacteria but it won’t cling on to anything so you don’t ever have to worry about scratching.
Ultra plush microfiber cloth also known as a buffing cloth this has so many wonderful applications but the first thing I want to tell you is that this cloth is super thick and soft it feels like you kind of want a blanket made out of it or something now the reason this is so thick and by the way it’s almost two times as heavy as a general-purpose microfiber cloth is because it is super unbelievably insanely absorbent so if you have a spill remember that other orange cloth that used to be on TV all the time well this is one that can definitely replace that cloth it’s incredibly absorbent but it’s also great for other applications where you need buffing because of the super thick fibers it’s great for buffing so car people love it I also keep it in my car so I can dust my dashboard or you know my windows when I’m at a stop sign actually a stoplight or stuck in traffic I live in Dubai there’s crazy bad traffic here this cloth is also larger than the other cloths because it’s designed specifically to be used for bigger jobs that’s why it’s important to have a cloth like this around the house this here is a waffle weave towel or a dish towel drying towel or as we call it in UAE a tea towel which i think is the classy name for it the reason I love these cloths so much is because they are incredible in the kitchen one of my biggest pet peeves with kitchen towels is that you hang them you use them to dry your hands between cooking or you use them to wipe any of your dishes pots or pans dry after you’ve hand wash them and they become wet and soggy and pretty much unusable very quickly.
Microfiber cloths like this these waffle weave towels they’re super absorbent and they’re fast drying so even if you have a whole bunch of stuff that you have to dry there’s really not a good chance that this cloth is going to become so saturated you can’t use it to do the rest of your work now look at the size of our cloth I mean I know I’m a little biased here but we designed it to be feet by feet so that it’s huge and it can handle a lot of stuff in the kitchen the other reason we made this cloth so big was kind of a selfish reason but it’s because when I come out of the shower I love to wrap my hair in this cloth it absorbs a ton of moisture from my hair meaning I can blow-dry it so much quicker here’s some general usage guidelines for microfiber cloths because they are so effective at picking up bacteria and moisture and polishing and shiny surfaces you actually don’t need to use very much product or anything fancy with them so my recommendation is to sick to something super simple whether it’s water which I use a lot of the time or a general purpose cleaner like dish soap and water or even something like vinegar and water is fine but that’s pretty much all you need to do the cloth is going to do the majority of the work you also want to make sure you don’t use anything that has bleach or anything that has a silicon oil or wax base because that is going to be pretty much impossible to get out of microfiber remember it’s percent polyester when it comes to taking care of your microfiber cloths you want to make sure you’re doing it properly because if you do your clasp will last you for a good long time instead of having to waste tons and tons of different cotton cloths or paper towels or one you swiped.
Microfiber cloths will really carry you so when it comes to washing them first and foremost what you want to do is make sure that you rinse them before you put them in the washing machine any debris that stuck on a microfiber cloth could potentially transfer over to another microfiber so give them a quick rinse under the sink before you actually put them in the washing machine now if you take your cloth out of your kitchen and it’s wet or you just finished cleaning with it and it’s wet and throw it in a pile and wash it for days later the cloth might develop some bacteria or odors so you want to make sure that your cloths are dry before you put them into a dirty cloth pile you also want to make sure that you’re only laundering microfiber with other microfiber because it can easily pick up lint from towels or socks or other types of cloth and when you’re washing your microfiber cloths you want to make sure you’re using cool water gentle detergent and when you’re putting them in the dryer you want to use a low heat or a no heat cycle heat is actually really bad for microfiber it kind of melts the material which is going to render the cloth useless you also want to make sure you’re not using any fabric softener which will clog the fibers of the microfiber cloth also rendering it useless and bleach can kind of eat holes through the cloth so you definitely don’t want to use bleach with your cloths now if you don’t have a dryer that’s totally fine you can hang them to dry people in the cleaning industry love microfiber cloths because it saves their cleaners energy and time it also saves them money and the job gets done better and of course they can use less product and less harsh product because microfiber is such an incredible innovation.
